Wellbeing & Personal Development
The team in Prep care for each child as the unique individual they are. Small forms and classes mean that all our staff know all the children incredibly well. There is a buddy system in place for our younger pupils so that they quickly feel at home.
Our pupils know that they can approach any member of staff with any worry, big or small. Staff work together to ensure that the children in our care are safe, healthy, and happy, enjoying and achieving in their school lives so that they are prepared and ready for their future, whatever that may hold.
Our College DREAMS values of determination, resilience, empowerment, appreciation, motivation and security are an integral part of the education in these younger years. The College recognises the importance of nurturing a child’s love of learning. This stage is a critical period for a child’s growth and development, as they naturally seek to learn about the world through hands-on experience. The Nursery and Prep Departments are safe and welcoming learning environments, designed to ignite curiosity and cater to the individualised needs of each child.
Personal Development is delivered weekly as part of the curriculum. Prep pupils are involved in assemblies and the School Council’s ideas are taken to the Deputy Head of Prep for discussion – the children themselves become the catalyst to making a difference to their educational experiences.
As children move up through Prep, there are leadership opportunities such as Form Captains, Vice-Form Captains, House Captains, Eco Committee and School Council Representatives. These plant the seeds of taking on responsibility and making a difference in the school community.
At St. Francis’ College we nurture the whole child and aim to fulfil not only their academic potential but also their resilience and life-skills.
Leadership Opportunities
There are several specific roles within the Prep Department to further develop leadership skills, empowering pupils, supporting their self-confidence and building aspiration.
From Year I upwards children can take on a leadership role such as Form Captain and Vice-Captain, members of the School Council and Eco Committee. These positions are held for a term, providing all our pupils the ability to make a valued contribution to Prep life as well as developing their leadership skills.
Once in Year 6, the children can apply for the roles of Senior & Deputy Prefect as well as House Captain and Vice-Captain.
