Physical Education

Subject Overview

Physical Education (PE) plays a crucial role in the holistic development of students, and our target is to give all students the opportunity to participate regularly. Our PE curriculum focuses on refining fundamental movement skills, fostering teamwork, and introducing a variety of sports and activities. Students are encouraged to explore their physical capabilities, enhancing their coordination, agility, and overall fitness. Beyond the physical aspects, PE also emphasises the importance of fair play, sportsmanship, and the development of a positive attitude towards an active and healthy lifestyle. Through a diverse range of activities, including team sports, individual pursuits, and fitness exercises, students not only improve their physical prowess but also build essential life skills such as communication, resilience, and leadership. Overall, PE aims to instil a lifelong appreciation for physical activity and well-being in students, laying the foundation for a healthy and active future.

KS4 & 5 Core PE

In Key Stage 4 and 5, students are given two lessons of Core PE a week. Beyond the evident physical health benefits, PE contributes substantially to mental wellness. Engaging in regular physical activity has been linked to reduced stress levels, improved mood, and enhanced cognitive function, all of which are especially crucial during the adolescent years. As students navigate the challenges of exams and increasing academic demands, PE serves as a vital outlet for stress relief and a means to develop resilience. Thus, in Key Stage 4 and 5, Physical Education emerges as an invaluable asset, promoting a harmonious balance between physical and mental well-being for students.
