Studying Law gives students an understanding of the role of Law in today’s society and raises their awareness of the rights and responsibilities of individuals.
The aims of this qualification are to enable students to develop:
- Their analytical ability and decision making and critically resolving legal problems and challenges.
- An understanding about legal rules and how these rules apply to real life situations.
Course Content:
1. Paper 1 (33.3%)
- The nature of law and the English legal system (25 marks out of 100). Criminal law (75 marks out of 100).
Criminal content examined includes the rules of criminal law, general elements of liability, fatal and non-fatal offences against the person.
2. Paper 2 (33.3%)
- The nature of law and the English legal system (25 marks out of 100). Tort (75 marks out of 100).
Tort law content includes negligence for physical injury psychiatric injury property, nuisance, occupiers liability,
3. Paper 3 (33.3%)
- Law of contract (75 marks out of 100). The nature of law and the English legal system (25 marks out of 100).
Contract law will examine the essentials of a contract looking specifically at consumer law.
All three papers will examine topics as statutory interpretation, precedent, law and morality, parliamentary law making process and the personalities in the English legal system.
Extra-curricular:
Students will have opportunities to attend law courts, law conferences and appropriate local businesses, when appropriate.
